Analysis Project

For my analysis project I will be writing about the Frederick County 4h Therapeutic Riding Program located in Thurmont MD. I have volunteered there for a few years and it has a very special place in my heart.

The Frederick County 4h Therapeutic Riding program was established in 1983 and in April of 1991 the organization received it's nonprofit status from the IRS and also received it's silver star rating on Guidestar.org. Sine 1984, the program has grown from 16 riders with only Saturday classes, to having 78 riders taking classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. They have gone from one instructor to now three, from one therapist to now several and from five horses to now 18.

Their mission is to provide Maryland citizens who have medically certified mental, physical, and/ or emotional disabilities with equestrian activities in order for them to learn horsemanship skills, communication skills, improve posture and balance and to build their self-confidence.

SWOT Analysis:

Strengths: This organization excels in bringing out the best in their students and helping them improve each lesson. Most of the students have developed wonderful connections with their horses and their volunteers, making them eager to continue with lessons.

Weaknesses: This organization often lacks young, able bodied volunteers, equipment and funding's.

Opportunities: Using the TRP Instagram page to attract new volunteers (hopefully young) and to attract new donations and equipment.

Threats: TRP is often over-looked due to regular therapy options for disabled people.
