Social Media and my Future
"What kind of jobs are you interested in?"
"What are you going to do after college?"
These are only a few of the questions I've been bombarded with since before high school. And if I had given anyone an honest answer at just 14 years old, I would have said that I expected to be working a dead-end job that doesn't pay well and living in my parent's basement for the rest of my life. Yes, that really would have been my answer.
Six years later and I still have no idea what I want to do with my life. I chose Communications as my major solely because it's such a broad major so I would have more options in the job universe. All I know is that I enjoy helping others and making people feel loved and less alone. I'm extremely passionate about my volunteering (pictured above) but unfortunately volunteering isn't a job. I'm an advocate for mental health and body image issues as well as learning disabilities. I care deeply about the well-being of others and I strive to help as many people as I can in my lifetime.
Social Media definitely makes this passion of mine a lot easier, because I can easily go online and see a negative tweet or photo someone posted and leave a comment with some encouraging words or encouraging that person to reach out to someone (including me) if need be. Social Media helps spread the messages of issues like body image issues more efficiently and in more populated settings. I've tried to use my social media accounts to spread messages of positivity, support, love, inclusiveness, diversity, acceptance etc.; and this had lead to me making a bigger impact on some people that I ever thought possible. I have over 6,000 followers on TikTok, because of my promotion of self-love and my passion of helping others and making people smile. Social media creates an environment where I can share my own stories about my struggles with various things like my learning disability and hopefully inspire someone else who is going through a similar situation. I hope to be able to continue this for a very long time, because I really think that social media can continue to bring people together and offer help and encouragement to those who need it.
Something we used to say a lot at my High School is that "the loving good person, even alone can make a difference." and I live by those words everyday. I hope to somehow make a career out of my passion for working to make a difference in my areas of specialty.
