My Social Media Log Assessment
A couple weeks ago, I kept a Social Media log for this class and I logged which app I used, how long I used it for and the time and day that I used it. After completing the assignment and looking back through it, I realized that most of the time I spend on Social Media is a default for boredom. We were required to add our reasoning or motivation for using each app, and most of mine had the terms "mindless-scrolling" and "boredom" next to them.
This opened my eyes to how much of my life I waste staring at a screen simply because I'm bored. For the past couple weeks since turning in my Social Media log, I've tried to keep an eye out for continuous patterns like my use of Social Media when I'm bored. I discovered that not only do I waste hours of my life looking at stupid videos and liking random photos of people I don't even know, but I also go directly to Social Media when I'm bored. My initial reaction to feeling bored or like I need something to do to occupy my time, is to reach for my phone.
This got me thinking about other people my age who do the same thing. So I'd like to end this post with some questions for my audience to ponder and perhaps share their answers to in the comments.
Do you reach for your phone as soon as you get bored?
How many times have you let a beautiful day go to waste because of Social Media?
What's the longest you've gone (since having a phone & Social Media) without looking at them?
My answers to these questions embarrass me, but it's never too late to change that:)
